Disability Best Practice Award for Todds Leap at the Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards.
Ballygawley based outdoor activity provider, Todds Leap, recently collected a prestigious Irish News Workplace and Employment Award for Disability Best Practice. The list of well-known companies entering the awards shows the high regard in which they are held; the big names include Allstate Northern Ireland, Royal Mail and First Derivatives PLC. To be recognised among companies from so many different disciplines highlights the good work of the outdoor industry as a whole in Northern Ireland, where there is a concerted commitment to providing adventure and adrenaline pursuits for all. This is demonstrated through efforts such as the Disability Inclusion training organised by Outdoor Recreation NI and delivered to 19 outdoor activity providers at the end of 2011.
Over the past seven years, Todds Leap has employed 12 staff with disabilities and every adrenaline activity is assessed to ensure those with disabilities can be included. The new conference centre is also fully accessible, offering showering and bathroom facilities which were designed in association with disability groups. Work completed to achieve three industry accreditations last year (Learning Outside the Classroom LOtC, British Activity Providers Association BAPA and Adventuremark), consolidated Todds Leap ability to offer equal opportunities for safe, high quality experiences, without compromising on value and fun!
With a continuing focus on integration and accessibility, outdoor activity providers can lead the way in providing a happy, healthy workplace for all and facilitating the personal development of employees.
