Big wave surfer Al Mennie crosses oceans for charity

Al Mennie, champion big wave surfer is preparing to SWIM ACCROSS THE IRISH SEA to Scotland for charity!

Bunk Campers, Ireland and Scotland’s largest campervan and motorhome rental company has recently joined forces with surfing sensation Al Mennie, in an effort to promote Ireland as one of the worlds’ premier surf spots.

Bunk Campers have provided the world-class surfer with a top of the line ‘Ranger’ campervan, to aid him in his ongoing quest to surf the worlds’ biggest waves.

Big wave surfer, Al Mennie, who made headline news all over the world a few months ago by being part of a team which surfed the biggest wave the world had ever seen in Portugal, is setting his sights on his next big challenge.

Al will be paddling on a surfboard from the legendary Giant’s Causeway on Ireland’s majestic north coast, across the Irish Sea to the island of Islay in western Scotland – a distance of over 25 miles, and a journey of over eight hours in temperatures of minus 5 degrees Celsius.

Supported by bunk campers, Al will be making his epic journey in aid of the charity Chest, heart and Stroke.

“Both Ireland and Scotland are fantastic up and coming venues and are competing at the surfing world stage with established surf spots like Hawaii and Australia. We don’t have tubes of suncream here, instead we have 6mm wetsuits. It’s a much more rugged experience”
