Team Chain Reaction Cycles Belfast Celebrate Successful 2019’

At the start of the year, CRC Belfast announced that they would be launching a new team to compete in the enduro and downhill series across Ireland.

Dave Astin, Senior Store Manager said; ‘We really wanted to support local talent and encourage grass roots development in the ever-growing enduro racing.  Phil (‘Beefy’) Mullan, Mark O’Kane, Hannah Harvey and Daniel Lappin were obvious choices to approach and for the entire team at the Belfast store to get behind and support with our inaugural year of enduro racing in Ireland.

In conjunction with Vitus bikes we saw a great opportunity to showcase a brand developed and produced in N. Ireland synergised with local riders and (hopefully) get some amazing results.  The team were all on Sommet 27 CRX enduro bikes and the success they had this season has been fantastically echoed with a string season of these bikes being sold through the store.’

The mix of demographic of the team saw each of them being represented in the masters, pro women, under 21 and junior categories with all of the riders having a positive year.

Mark O’Kane said; ‘The season has been great.  Its been an amazing opportunity to be part of the CRC Belfast team.  My highlight was round 2 of the Gravity Enduro series in Killaloe.  It was a brand new venue for lots of the riders and I was amazed by the quality of the trails on the mountain.

I finished off overall 4th and 7th in the First Tracks and Gravity respectively and am really chuffed with 2019.  The Sommet CRX was awesome and the mechanics at CRC Belfast certainly dialled in the suspension at each event to suit me perfectly.’

Hannah Harvey commented that; ‘I was really happy with this seasons performance.  A great start to the season at the enduro series with a win at Bigwood in Warrenpoint was unfortunately brought to an end when I crashed at the National Downhill championships at Rostrevor.

The carbon Sommet CRX was a really great bike to train and race on over the season.  Personally, I would like to thank Ruari and Michael from the workshop in the store.  At every event they were there to look after us and ensure the bikes where setup perfectly.’

Daniel Lappin from Banbridge had a very fortuitous season.  He said; ‘2019 saw me getting 2nd overall in the Irish downhill champs, 3rd overall at the First Tracks and Gravity series and 2nd overall at the Gap series.  The position on the team has been an amazing opportunity and the overall team performance this year has been great!’

Philip Mullan had a fantastic season also.  He stated; ‘I won the overall Masters B section at the Vitus and Gravity enduro’s  this year and also my section at the Irish Downhill champs so I’m really over the moon. The team have really gelled well together and the support from all of the staff at the Belfast store has been really appreciated.  We all went out go-karting at the end of the season with the guys from Boucher Road and it was really good to do something social that didn’t involve the bike too!  A massive thank-you to everyone for supporting us throughout the year.’

With a successful year on the trails and in-store with the enduro discipline and e-bike enduro really taking off, Chain Reaction Cycles Belfast is the definitive destination for all those wishing to take-up or upgrade for 2020.

The team will be on-site over Christmas/New Year and the new 2020 range of MTB bikes from Vitus and Nukeproof can be purchased directly from them at any point.
