Vaughan's Holm

Vaughan's Holm

Vaughan’s Holm is open green space on a bend in the River Strule in Newtownstewart. The area consists of an open park space with playing fields. The site is surrounded on three sides by the river which enables a circular walk.

This was formerly an important site as the motte known as Pigeon Hill indicates. This was one of three or four castles which stood in the area in the 1600s. On the old ordnance survey maps the land is named as the Old Race Course.

Car parking is available on the Douglas Road where there is also a children’s playpark. The Also based at the site is the local Gaelic Athletic Club.
