Bush craft Environmental Canoe Trips –
Lough Erne
Get away from it all and learn new skills in the outdoors. Your 3 day excursion starts at Share holiday Village in the afternoon with a bus trip to Killyshandra on the Erne Shannon Link. You will be dropped off with Open Canoes, and all paddling and camping equipment. You will have a short paddle to learn the essential paddling and safety skills to complete the trip before setting up camp and eating your dinner off an open fire built by yourself under the stars.
After a refreshing sleep your trip will begin early with a paddle along the Erne Shannon link stopping to look at the wildlife en route. The trip will take you to areas only reachable by canoe and the serenity of the location will encapsulate you. You will learn techniques to minimise your noise whilst paddling to enjoy the tranquillity throughout. You will attempt to catch your dinner and learn bushcraft skills including sustainable fire lighting techniques, shelter building and navigation whilst adhering to the Outdoor Ethics of Leave No Trace to minimise your impact on your surroundings.
Our knowledgeable instructors will also inform you of the vast array of useful flora and fauna that are all around us. For family groups - campfire games and stories will be included to stimulate even the youngest members.
On the second evening you will paddle to your campsite at the National Trust property of Crom - a Romantic and tranquil landscape of islands, woodland and historical ruins. Here you will see Irelands Oldest Yew Trees (named amongst the 50 great British trees) and see Wild deer, pine marten bats and butterflies as well as Deer joyfully playing in the beautiful grounds before setting out along the culturally rich Upper Lough Erne.
The following morning you will paddle through reed beds and passed Irelands Oldest Yacht Club and have the opportunity to stop at the island of Insihrath - where the Hare Krishna community leads a way of life inspired by the 5000 year old Vedic Texts of ancient India. Peacocks, heron, swan, Irish hare and other wildlife wander freely in the peaceful Lakeland atmosphere. Paddling on from Inishrath you will stop on Trannish Island Tee Pees for lunch before completing the paddle back to Share Holiday Village.
