About the Experience

With the Mourne Mountains as its backdrop, the Mourne Foods Cycle Trail pairs up gentle cycling, stunning scenery and simply delicious food! Devised by the Enniskeen Country House Hotel the trail showcases the wonderful artisan food in this area of Northern Ireland.

You will get the chance to stop off with local producers, hear their stories and buy directly from the farmer, before storing your provisions in the specially provided bike panniers adding to this unique and memorable experience.

On arrival at Enniskeen Country House Hotel you will be kitted out with a helmet and bike complete with panniers for storing that all important food, as well as a map to guide you along the way and make sure you get the most out of this tasty trail.

A shuttle bus will then take you to the start point at Spelga Dam in the heart of the Mourne Mountains and from there it is all downhill through the beautiful Shimna valley and Tollymore Forest Park. The surrounding scenery is stunning with views of the Mourne Mountains, and as you cycle through Tollymore Forest Park you pass by the 'Kings Grave' and 'Altavaddy Bridge' the filming location of the 'Direwolf Pups' in the Game of Thrones TV series – so don't forget your camera!

Along the trail you will get to visit local producers and purchase some of their tasty foods including Abernethy Butter Company, Murlough Farm free range eggs, Mourne Honey, Dundrum Bay Mussel and Oyster fishery, Pattersons Mourne Lamb Farm, Grahams Ice Cream, Cookie Jar bakery and Enniskeen Country House hotel. There will also be the opportunity to stop off at some of the great local eateries if you fancy spending slightly longer off the saddle.

The routes are a mix of quiet rural roads and off road trails with gentle cycling either downhill or on flat ground, making them suitable for anyone looking for a novel way to spend a day or half day exploring.
