Out & About Hikers Invitation Walk

Location

Mourne Mountains

Date

Sunday, 1 October, 2017

Time

11:30 to 17:00

About the Event

Have you seen the mysterious rock formations in the Kilkeel River Valley? Join Out & About Hikers for a walk through the mysterious rock formations of the Mill River Valley in the Mournes. Experience the social benefits of getting out for a walk with like minded individuals in the great outdoors and make some new friends along the way.

From Meelmore car park the group will head up Hare’s Gap before descending to the shore of Ben Crom for a picnic lunch. After lunch the group will go up through the mysterious rock formations of the Mill River Valley towards the Brandy Pad and returning via Hare’s Gap to the car park. This is a challenging ramble in the Mournes and requires a good level of fitness. There are no major summits involved. The total height climbed is over 450 metres and a distance of 8 miles over heather, bog, grass and stone paths so walkers require a good level of general fitness and stamina.

After the walk you are welcome to join the club for tea and coffee in Meelmore Lodge Bistro which remains open until 6pm on Sundays.

This event is part of the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs (UFRC) Open Weekend.

What to Bring

Warm clothes, walking boots, waterproofs, backpack with a packed lunch and water. A change of clothes in the car in case of heavy rain.
