The Newry and Mourne Women’s Mini Marathon will take place on Sunday 22 July 2012 and is a 10k event - for women designed by women. With running and outdoor recreation on the increase there has been an increasing demand for this type of event. However we didn’t want to bring you just another road race. Drawing on feedback from local runners, we have designed a 10k event that will take you into the beautiful countryside that Newry and Mourne has to offer, whilst keeping you running / walking entirely on tarmac and on an ever decreasing gradient.
Location and Route
The start point of this 10k route is located at an area known as “Leitrim Lodge” which is located between Rostrevor and Hilltown. After a short uphill section at the start the route continues past “Santa’s Cottage” before following a downhill route in the direction of Rostrevor passing Batts Wall and Yellow Water. On nearing Rostrevor the route turns left off the Newtown Road, up a small hill and onto the forest drive through Kilbroney Park for the final stretch. The race finishes in the same fantastic location as the Mourne Way Marathon events in Kilbroney Park.
Support and Water Stations
There will be two water stations along the 10k route providing support. In addition to this there will be numerous marshals keeping everyone on the right track. The finish area will be located in the scenic setting of Kilbroney Park.
Parking and Transport to the start
In addition to registering online all participants MUST register on the morning of the event in Kilbroney Park. You will be given your race number and timing chip upon registration in Kilbroney Park and it should be noted that nothing will be sent to you in the post prior to the event. There will be designated parking areas for all participants in Kilbroney Park beside the registration area / finish line. Once registered, all participants will board a series of buses that will transport everyone to the start point of the event at Leitrim Lodge. The last bus will depart for the start location at 11:15am. The bus transport to the start line is included in the entry fee. All participants should avail of this transport to ease congestion at the start area, if you plan to make your own way to the start you will be required to park a considerable distance from the start line and walk the remainder of the way. This also applies to event spectators.
Participant Timing
The event will be electronically timed by our timing partner Champion Chip Ireland. We will provide all participants with a post race text message with their results. In addition to this all results will be posted on the event website shortly after the event.
