Prior to attending this course candidates should:
Have registered with Mountain Leader Training N.I. and completed the full Walking Group Leader Award Training Course (some students with suitable experience may apply directly to the MLTNI)
Ensure they have fulfilled all of the pre-requisites for assessment as indicated in the Syllabus
Be fit and prepared for three full days on the hill including lengthy night navigation sessions
Course summary:
This course aims to observe and assess candidates in all aspects of the Walking Group Leader Award Syllabus and their suitability to lead others in suitable WGL mountain areas of the UK and Ireland in summer conditions.
Upon acceptance onto the course students will receive a written home paper to be completed and returned to Tollymore before attending assessment.
Who is the course for?
This course is for those who wish to be assessed for the Walking Group Leader Award.
Bring any of your own personal rock climbing / outdoor clothing and kit. Such as, waterproof jacket and trousers, boots, fleece jacket, hat and gloves, harness and rack, flask, water bottle, Mourne map (1:25,000), guide book, compass Silva type 4 or similar, camp kit (sleeping bag, stove, cookware, etc),and spare clothes.
