About the Event

This day (or part of a day) is for those who were deferred on part of their Mountain Leader (summer) Assessment. The structure of the day will depend on the aspect of the syllabus that requires reassessment.

Course summary

The aims of this course are:

This course aims to observe and assess candidates in aspects of the Mountain Leader Award Syllabus in which they have been deferred.

To provide a structured course, with nationally accredited instructors

To provide advice for future development

Skills Covered:

Skills covered will depend on the area of the syllabus of the scheme that needs to be reassessed. However, the structure of the day enables us to examine all aspects of the syllabus, ensuring that you have the opportunities to exhibit the skills required of a Mountain Leader.

Who is the course for?

This course is for all who have been deferred on part of their Mountain Leader Assessment.

Outline programme:

This programme may vary, depending on prevailing weather conditions and areas of the syllabus to be assessed.

Steep Ground & Rope Work 09:00 - 15:00

Navigation 15:00 - 22.00 or after sufficient time is spent navigating in poor visibility.

If you are to be reassessed in both areas you will obviously start at 09:00 and return to the centre for 15:00 before being briefed for the navigation session at 16:00.

It is important to note that the above outline programme is a guide. Times may vary due to weather conditions or other reasons.

N.B. At time of booking please ensure you submit a copy of the deferment page from your log book. This allows the assessor to plan the appropriate format required for your reassessment.

What to Bring

Please ensure you bring your up to date MLA log book.

Bring any of your own personal hill walking/outdoor clothing and kit, such as; waterproof jacket and trousers, boots, fleece jacket, hat and gloves, flask, water bottle, Mourne map (1:25,000), compass Silva type 4 or similar and spare clothes.

Tollymore can supply most of the equipment you require for this course but as an aspirant ML it is assumed you will be fairly self-sufficient in terms of kit.
