The Giant’s Causeway Coast Sportive is a unique event based on the iconic North Coast of Ireland offering participants some of Northern Ireland’s most stunning natural landscapes, most notably the Giant’s Causeway and views over to Rathlin Island and the headlands to the east.
The entry level 35 mile ‘Causeway Coaster’ is designed for those who occasionally get out on the bike but would like to set themselves an achievable target to work towards. This route begins in the coastal town of Ballycastle, before heading south through rural countryside to Armoy. Then from here cyclists will head west towards the Giant’s Causeway through Bushmills, passing by Ireland’s oldest distillery. The second half of this route then coasts alongside Whitepark Bay and Carrick-a-rede Island with breathtaking views out to Rathlin Island and the Mull of Kintyre further in the distance.
The medium distance 78 mile ‘Glens and Coast’ route is more challenging as it heads south from Ballycastle to Cushendall before leading through the Glens of Antrim and finishing along the Causeway Coast driving route from Glenarm to Ballycastle. This route includes a number of tough hill climbs over Torr Head and rewards lung-busting efforts with some exciting descents.
Then there is the 113 mile ‘Giant Killer’ which combines both the two shorter routes and will really only suit serious cyclists who are used to clocking up the miles on a weekly basis.
A dedicated event website has been set up with more information on the event including route maps, photos and elevation charts. On this website you can book your place on the sportive and also book a place for the pre-event dinner evening with Irish Pro Cyclist Philip Deignan (Team Radioshack).
