In Northern Ireland, most archery takes the form of target archery. This type of archery involves shooting many arrows at a well-marked target, at some distance. Target archery is practiced essentially the same indoors and outdoors.

There are a number of other disciplines in archery including field archery whereby the archers will shoot at a range of targets set out in an outdoor wooded course.

Many activity providers in Northern Ireland provide archery as a key activity, so this is an ideal and inexpensive way to give it a go. There are a number of clubs too throughout Northern Ireland.

Many clubs will have a stock of bow and arrows for beginners. A bow can cost from about £100 up to around £300.
